“He was assigned to one patient coming from the province. The patient wants to be transferred to Japan because there is a COVID patient in the previous hospital where the patient was admitted. Kapag nag-transfer tayo ng patient, dapat may isang doctor, nurse,” Dr. Atienza said.

Other passengers of the aircraft who also died were an American national and a Canadian national. There were also six Filipinos including Bautista, a flight medic, a nurse, and three flight crew were also victims of the aircraft fire.

Mandaluyong Councilor Charisse Abalos shared that the young doctor was assigned in the surgery department at the Mandaluyong City Medical Center. Based on the report, the investigation is still ongoing but the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines said in an initial statement that the aircraft encountered a technical problem before it took off on Runway 06/24.

Ria Bautista, band vocalist od Paramita and the young doctor’s sister, wrote this heart-wrenching Facebook post for her brother: “I lost my brother on that flight. No words can describe how devastating it is to lose a family member in such a horrific way. How do you process something like this. How. All I know is that he fought like a hero and I can only hope that his fight would not be in vain. RIP, Nicko. I love you my brother. I will honor you forever.”
