Increasing Coronavirus Cases in Italy Leads To Temporary Total Lockdown of the Country
ITALY – Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte placed the whole country under a total lockdown over coronavirus spread.
The Italian government is now faced with a huge challenge as the cases of coronavirus infection in the country increases. Previously, Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte has moved to put Lombardy region and 14 provinces in the country under a lockdown .
The Italian Prime Minister agreed to travel restrictions on the northern part of the country in the hope to curb the spread of the virus. The said disease first emerged in China in December 2019 and has left the mainland under an outbreak.
Recently, an update regarding the coronavirus cases in Italy crossed the surface. Based on a report on CNN, the country is now under a total lockdown.
Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte extended the coverage of the lockdown to the whole nation following the spike in the coronavirus cases in the country. It is the European country with the highest number of cases.
Based on the report, there are over 9,000 people infected with coronavirus in Italy. Furthermore, the death toll has reached 463. Last Sunday, a total of 97 died of the disease.
According to Lombardy Intensive Care Coordinator Antonio Pesenti, they are “now being forced to set up intensive care treatment in corridors” of hospitals. He described the situation as “a tsunami of patients”.
