The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in the United States introduced Clara, a “coronavirus self-checker” which was created in partnership with Microsoft Azure’s Healthcare Bot service.

This, as Clara was a bot that can help people make decisions about what to do if they have potential symptoms of coronavirus disease or COVID-19.

Clara was intended for use by people who were present in the United States while COVID-19 has been declared “a global pandemic” by the World Health Organization (WHO). According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, there were more than 15,200 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 200 fatalities in the United States as of March 22, 2020.

However, Clara wasn’t intended to be used for diagnosis or treatment purposes.

Microsoft, in a statement, said that screening patients who have cold or flu-like symptoms to determine who needs “access to limited medical resources” created a bottleneck that threatens to overwhelm health systems who were coping with the crisis.
