College Baseball Coach, Wife And Daughter Dead In Helicopter Crash

John Altobelli, a baseball coach at Orange Coast College, was killed in a helicopter crash along with his wife and his daughter.

He, his wife, Keri, and his daughter, Alyssa, were among the nine people aboard the helicopter when it crashed around 10 a.m. Sunday in Calabasas (2:00 a.m. Monday in the Philippines). The said helicopter also took the lives of Kobe Bryant and his daughter, Gianna.

John Altobelli spent 27 seasons as coach and was named national coach of the year in 2019.

Following the passing of John Altobelli, his wife, Keri, and his daughter, Alyssa, the Orange Coast College officially announced the creation of a memorial fund for family.

In a statement, athletic director Jason Kehler said that John Altobelli was meant to Orange Coast College and to baseball. He also said that he was “truly personified what it means to be a baseball coach” because of his passion that he put in the game as well as he treated his athletes like a family.
