President Bongbong Marcos: “The Philippines has no intention of rejoining the ICC.”
PRESIDENT BONGBONG MARCOS – The President disapproved proposals for the Philippines to rejoin the International Criminal Court (ICC).
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr said in an interview with reporters in Pasig City that the Philippine government is already investigating all deaths linked to the Duterte administration’s crackdown on illegal drugs.
The President also said that this was discussed during his meeting with Executive Secretary Victor Rodriguez, Presidential Legal Adviser Juan Ponce Enrile, Solicitor General Menardo Guevarra, Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla, Foreign Affairs Secretary Enrique Manalo, and lawyer Harry Roque last July 27.
However, the President said that the government is discussing the necessary steps that need to be taken.

He also emphasized the need to thoroughly assess how the Philippine government would act on the ICC Office of the Prosecutor’s formal request to resume investigations into the human rights situation in the country.
“Ang mineeting natin ay dahil sinasabi ngayon ay itutuloy yung imbestigasyon. E sinasabi naman naming may imbestigasyon naman dito. Patuloy rin naman ang imbestigasyon, bakit magkakaroon ng ganun?” the President said. “Kung sakali man sasagot tayo ano magiging sagot natin o possible din basta hindi natin papansinin dahil hindi naman tayo sumasailalim sa kanila.”
GMA News Online reported that the said meeting happened more than a week after The Hague-based International Criminal Court “invited” the country to provide observations on the ICC prosecutor’s request to reopen the probe into the killings attributed to the war on illegal drugs.
The ICC, in an order dated July 14, gave the country until September 8, 2022 to provide any observations on the planned reopening of the investigation.
