After earning backlash, Kuya Kim apologized over his comment on the transmission of Monkeypox
KUYA KIM – The television host took to social media wherein he apologized due to his “ambiguous” comment on Monkeypox transmission.
Kuya Kim or Kim Atienza whose real name is Alejandro Ilagan Atienza is a television host, actor, weather anchor, YouTube vlogger, and former politician.
He is the eldest son of the former mayor of Manila and Buhay Party-List Representative Lito Atienza.
Atienza started his stint on TV when he began hosting Magandang Umaga, Pilipinas’ Animalandia.
He then became ABS-CBN’s weather tracker for TV Patrol until he became the show’s weather presenter.
On September 29, 2021, Atienza announced that he would leave ABS-CBN and TV Patrol on October 1, as he transfers to GMA Network.
Aside from showbiz, he also ventured into politics. He served as councilor of the 5th District of Manila for three terms.
Currently, he’s making the rounds online following his comment about the transmission of Monkeypox.
This, after a netizen, asked him what is the difference between chickenpox and monkeypox.
According to his now-deleted post which was retrieved by Fashion Pulis, chickenpox is less severe and the virus is airborne while monkeypox can be transmitted s*x*ally, “usually M to M.”
Apparently, his remark did not gain affirmation from the LGBT community.
Eventually, he apologized for his “ambiguous” comment.
Wedmd.com stated that “monkeypox is a zoonotic virus, which means it spreads from animals to humans.”
Meanwhile, it was on Friday when the Department of Health (DOH) confirmed that the country has detected its first confirmed case of monkeypox. The case is a 31-year-old Filipino national who arrived from abroad last July 19.
