Meet Jhonwel Reyes, a street mime performer known as Green Soldier
GREEN SOLDIER – The street mime performer has been a hit among tourists in the summer capital of the Philippines, Baguio City.
A mime artist is a person who uses mime as a theatrical medium or as performance art. Miming involves acting out a story through body motions, without the use of speech.
Miming is distinguished from silent comedy, in which the artist is a character in a film or skit without sound.
A street performer who goes by the name of Green Soldier has become a hit among tourists in Baguio City.
The man behind the costume is no less than Jhonwel Reyes. He started to perform way back in 2014.
Johnwel wears different costumes to entertain the audience.
Eventually, he landed on the video-sharing platform, TikTok where he rose to stardom.
Now, his income is enough to support the needs of his family.
He gets to perform at birthday parties and other events.

But before becoming a street performer, he had different jobs. The Green Soldier used to work as a pedicab driver, construction worker, service crew, janitor, and factory worker.
“Marami din po akong pinagdaanan sa buhay, lahat po ng hirap pinagdaanan ko talaga,” he said. “Lahat po ‘yan nagpatatag po sa pagkatao ko.”
When the COVID-19 pandemic hit, his source of income was affected after the place where he used to perform closed.
But when he moved to Baguio, his fortunes eventually changed.
