Engineering Student Earns Praises Online for Creating ‘Kalan de Mantika’
An engineering student creates ‘Kalan de Mantika’ wherein he could use used cooking oil to light up the stove.
Over the past few months, the prices of petroleum products such as gasoline, diesel and kerosene continue to increase. The price hike gets worse due to the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
Several individuals have no choice but to think of effective strategy to save a certain amount of cash amid the increasing fuel prices.
A 29-year-old Filipino engineering student identified as Jaysus Delos Santos of Milaor, Camarines Sur has invented a stove that uses used cooking oil. He is a former mechanic but decided to pursue an engineering course.
Delos Santos came up with the idea to create “Kalan de Mantika” amid the surging fuel prices due to Russia-Ukraine war. He decided to recycle used cooking oil, which is supposed to be dump.
The Kalan de Mantika is made up of scrap metal and battery-powered blower to intensify the fire. At first, he is using his invention at their house until he decided to create more stoves for commercial purposes.
Jayses started sell stoves for additional income. He can sell each stove for P2, 000 and assured the customers that the stuff is safe.
Currently, the engineering student is already talking to the owners of eateries and restaurants for used oil. He is also planning to sell used oil to his customers who purchased his ‘Kalan de Mantika’.
“Yung LPG po kasi natin ngayon ay patuloy na tumataas and yung mga used or waste oil natin ay nasasayang din talaga kaya naisip ko po itong project na ito. Nag-research ako sa internet lang. Hinanapan ko talaga ng paraan kung pano magamit yung used oil para makalikha ng apoy. Inabot din ako ng dalawang linggo sa pag-experiment,” Delos Santos said.
The online community expressed their reactions to the local invention:
