Vice President Leni Robredo explained why she did the “hadouken” and “karate” poses on social media.
LENI ROBREDO — The incumbent Vice President explained why she did the “hadouken” and “karate” poses on social media.
Admitting that some of her supporters weren’t happy with her doing a “karate” or a “hadouken” pose on social media, Robredo said during the DZRH’s “Bakit Ikaw? The Presidential Job Interview”, last Wednesday that this was a “small price to pay” to give back to her supporters.
The Vice President, who is running for president in the 2022 elections, explained that she was asked by her supporters on TikTok to do the “hadouken” pose, while her supporter from Japan brought home a traditional Happi costume.
“Alam ko na when I did it may mga hindi matutuwa pero sa akin, (it’s a) small price to pay dun sa joy na maibibigay ko dun sa magri-request na grabe iyong sinasakripisyo para lang makatulong sa amin,” the Vice President said, referring to the “hadouken” pose she did for a TikTok video last December.
In a Facebook post, the Vice President was photographed wearing a pink Happi costume with the words “Team Leni-Kiko Japan” at the back. The costume, which was worn by the Japanese during festivals, has wide sleeves and comes with a belt tied to the wearer’s waist.

Robredo said that the costume was given by her supporters from Japan since one of their members went home to the Philippines.
The Vice President also did a “karate” pose, which became a brunt of jokes online that even her own supporters became critical of the photograph.
“Meaning to say, totoo na marami kaming supporters na displeased about it pero sa akin kasi pagpapakita iyon ng appreciation sa mga kababayan natin parang nagustuhan ko iyong binigay nila at pinapahalagahan ko,” Robredo stressed.
Robredo insisted that her campaign was “so different from others” because she relied on her volunteers and supporters who were using their own money in order to promote her presidential bid.
