DOH told moviegoers to wear face shields and face masks when going to cinemas.
DOH — The Department of Health appealed to moviegoers in Metro Manila to wear face shields and face masks when going to cinemas.
On Friday, the DOH appealed to moviegoers in the National Capital Region to observe health protocols in order to prevent the spread of coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
The government’s pandemic task force had lowered the community quarantine alert in Metro Manila to Level 3, allowing establishments such as cinemas to operate at 30 percent indoor venue capacity for fully vaccinated individuals only and 50 percent outdoor venue capacity for two weeks starting October 16.
In an online briefing, Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said that moviegoers going to cinemas should follow safety protocols.
“Para po sa ating mga kababayan, kung kayo ay pupunta at manonood ng sine, kailangan sundin ang safety protocols. You should wear your face shields and face masks,” Vergeire said.

Vergeire also appealed to moviegoers to refrain from eating inside movie theaters as they will have an increased risk of having an infection if they removed their face masks and face shields.
She added that cinemas must also have safety officers which will screen moviegoers and will monitor the compliance of health protocols.
Previously, Health Secretary Francisco Duque III had said that the agency will monitor if the reopening of movie theaters will lead to an increase in coronavirus infections.
Meanwhile, IATF Spokesperson Harry Roque said in a Presidential press briefing Thursday that they weren’t afraid of any recommendation coming from Dr. Tony Leachon.
The Palace spokesman was referring to Dr. Leachon’s thumbing down of the government’s move of allowing movie houses and cinemas to operate in Metro Manila starting October 16.
This coincided with the lowering of the alert level in Metro Manila from alert level 4 to alert level 3 under the Alert Level System (ALS).
“Unang-una, ito po ay para sa mga bakunado lamang. Pangalawa po, 30% seating capacity, wala po iyang magkakatabi. Tapos number three, mayroon pang guidelines na inisyu po ng ating DOH na kinakailangan may ventilation, may use of air purifier system,” Roque said in response to the doctors’ warning.
