There’s not enough evidence yet that there’s a community transmission of Delta COVID-19 variant, according to DOH.
On Monday, the Department of Health (DOH) said that there’s not enough evidence yet that there’s a community transmission of the Delta COVID-19 variant.
In an online forum, Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said that the assumption was there but the DOH can’t still pronounce or declare because they still didn’t have sufficient evidence yet.
“The assumption is there but we cannot still pronounce or declare because we still do not have sufficient evidence yet. We need sufficient evidence for us to declare that there is already community transmission because there are international implications to this,” Vergeire said.
In addition, Vergeire said that the Philippines also aligned with the international definition of community transmission.

Meantime, the Health official reported that there were already 17 active cases of the Delta COVID-19 variant. Of the active cases, Vergeire said that 15 were local cases while two were returning overseas Filipinos (ROFs).
“We have 17 active cases. I think what we released yesterday was 16. Upon revalidation, the one in Region 6 was classified as active case and is now in isolation facility,” Vergeire said.
