No face-to-face classes until children were vaccinated against COVID-19, according to President Duterte.
President Rodrigo Duterte said that he will only allow the resumption of face-to-face classes once everyone — including children — got vaccinated against COVID-19.
On Monday, President Duterte reiterated in his weekly pre-recorded public address that he will not allow the resumption of face-to-face classes until the Philippines had reached herd immunity against COVID-19.

“Dito sa face-to-face, I think I am not inclined to agree with you. I’m sorry but, mahirap, I cannot gamble on the health of the children,” President Duterte told Education Secretary Leonor Briones.

Briones then said that she agreed with the President and added that her agency will continue to prepare and wait until it’s safe to reopen schools in the country.
“We cannot match the professional knowledge of the health people, especially the idea of having our children vaccinated because we are told that children are now more prone and perhaps are vulnerable and we would not want to risk 27 million children and our teachers,” Briones said.
President Duterte had twice rejected a pilot test for face-to-face classes, the latest in February, because the country’s COVID-19 vaccination drive had yet to be launched at that time.
Aside from this, President Duterte said that he’s “constrained” to keep the wearing of face shields mandatory in order to prevent a “disaster” that may be caused by the COVID-19 Delta variant.
