Cebu City May Face Stricter Quarantine Due to Recorded Cases of COVID Mutations in the City
Cebu City may face stricter community quarantine measure due to the increase cases of new COVID-19 mutations.
The Cebu City’s Emergency Operations Center (EOC) expressed its concern regarding the increasing cases of the coronavirus disease in the town and after the discovery of two new virus mutations.
The Visayas IATF chief implementor General Melquiades Feliciano explaioned that there was still no evidence that the new mutations caused the rapid spread of the disease in the city. The national Inter-Agency Task Force would also review the quarantine status in the town.
The transmission of the virus is quite faster although the virility of virus is lower before due to the new COVID-19 variant among the identified cases in Cebu.
“Now the data last year, there was a positivity rate of 10 to 12 percent. This February, I say it again, we have very limited samples, but it is consistent. It has reached 20 percent. It seems that the transmissibility has doubled,” Feliciano said in Cebuano.
The Inter-Agency Task Force would continue to monitor COVID-19 cases over the next few weeks before deciding the fate of the town. Cebu City Mayor Edgardo Labella and Feliciano reportedly had talked regarding the possible quarantine status of the city.
However, Labella expressed his desire that the city would remain under modified general community quarantine.
