Roque defends Duterte
President Rodrigo Duterte won’t apologize to Vice President Leni Robredo as he has done nothing wrong according to Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque.
Roque noted that the president had the right to express his disappointment with Robredo who allegedly acted as in charge in the typhoon relief operations of the government.
“Unang-una, hindi naman sinabi ni Presidente sumakay siya ng C-130 eh. Hindi naman sinabi ni Presidente na pinalabas niya na iyon laman ng C-130 eh dala-dala ni VP Leni. Eh bakit siya manghihingi ng abiso? Humihingi na ng abiso iyong mga nagsabi noon – si Secretary (Delfin) Lorenzana at saka si Secretary (Salvador) Panelo,” he said.
Roque is referring to earlier claims of Panelo who noted that the incumbent vice president used a C-130 plane in her relief operations in Bicol.
But he earlier apologized for saying such. On the other hand, Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana also issued a statement about the matter.
The presidential spokesman also defended Duterte especially among those criticizing the latter’s supposed absence during the onslaught of disasters.
According to him, the president had already given orders to government agencies prior to the arrival of typhoons in the country.
“Consistent po ang behavior ng Presidente. Is that unpresidential? I don’t think so because 91% of the people have said that they trust and they believe that the President is performing well in his duties. Is it unpresidential? According to 91% of our people, no. According to 5%, including the Vice President, yes,” he stressed.
