President Duterte virtually attended 37th ASEAN Summit.
President Rodrigo Duterte virtually attended the opening ceremony of the 37th Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit.
This, as the 37th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits were hosted by Vietnam and centered on the theme “Cohesive and Responsive ASEAN“.
This year’s Summit focused on the further enhancement of ASEAN’s connectivity and cooperation with its Dialogue Partners in addressing some matters on the global strategic environment — including the region’s response to the pandemic.
According to the Office of the President (OP), President Rodrigo Duterte would exchange views with his counterparts about COVID-19 response and recovery efforts, regional and international developments, and the future direction of ASEAN community building.

While the President was attending the virtual ASEAN Summit, Filipinos online started to look for him again as typhoon “Ulysses” hit several parts of the Philippines.

With this, Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Eduardo Año said during PTV’s #LagingHanda program that the President had instructed government agencies to focus on areas that were affected by typhoon “Ulysses”.
According to Año, the President’s order was to save the lives of the victims of typhoon “Ulysses” first and also to provide assistance for them.
