Pope Francis named Archbishop Jose F. Advincula of Capiz as the new cardinal.
Pope Francis on Sunday had officially appointed 13 new cardinals — including Filipino Archbishop Jose F. Advincula of Capiz.
This, as the Pope made the announcement during his Sunday Angelus in the Vatican, saying that the new cardinals will be elevated at a consistory on November 28, 2020.
In a report on CBCP News, Advincula became the ninth Filipino cardinal, following cardinals Orlando Quevedo, Luis Antonio Tagle, Gaudencio Rosales, Jose Sanchez, Ricardo Vidal, Jaime Sin, Julio Rosales, and Rufino Santos.
He would also be the fourth living Filipino cardinal along with Quevedo, Rosales, and Tagle — who was the Prefect of the Vatican’s Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples.
As per the report, both Quevedo and Rosales were over 80 and were no longer eligible to take part in a conclave when the time comes to elect a new Pope.
