Taguig Rep. Alan Peter Cayetano tendered his irrevocable resignation as House Speaker
Taguig Representative Alan Peter Cayetano verbally said that he tendered his irrevocable resignation as the Speaker of the House of Representatives.
This, as Cayetano made the said announcement in a Facebook Live video as House members were ratifying the election of Marinduque Representative Lord Allan Velasco as a replacement.
On Tuesday, Cayetano verbally stated that he’s tendering his irrevocable resignation as the Speaker of the House of Representatives.
“Pakiusap ko sa aking mga kasama, 3 o clock [p.m.], elect your new Speaker and pass the budget,” Cayetano said, referring to the proposed PHP 4.5 trillion national budget for 2021 that would be discussed as the chamber started its special session on Tuesday.
However, Cayetano assured the public that he remained supportive of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte and he apologized for suspending the session last October 6, 2020, with the 2021 budget bill still unapproved.

Such suspension of session until November 16, 2020, prompted the President to issue a Proclamation Order calling for a special session from October 13 to October 16 in order to pave the way to budget approval on the third and final reading.
“I made a mistake, I misunderstood that you want me to finish the budget. Humihingi ako ng paumanhin, hindi ko intensiyon na hindi ka sundin,” Cayetano said.
On Monday, Cayetano was ousted as the House Speaker. As such, the House Speaker post was declared vacant during a session of the congress held at the Celebrity Sports Center in Quezon City.
Meanwhile, Marinduque Rep. Velasco on Tuesday said that he was willing to appoint Cayetano as the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives.
