Over Three Truckloads of Garbage Collected After INC Rally at EDSA

Authorities Collect More Than Three Truckloads of Trash Following INC Rally

More than three truckloads of garbage were collected after the Iglesia ni Cristo (INC) rally held near the EDSA People Power Monument, according to the Quezon City Department of Sanitation and Cleanup Works and the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA).

Cleanup operations began immediately after the event and continued overnight until the following morning. The areas cleaned included White Plains Avenue, the People Power Monument, and parts of EDSA near Camp Aguinaldo, where the gathering took place.

Authorities said the majority of the waste consisted of plastic bottles, used food containers, disposable plates, and food packaging left behind by participants. Sanitation workers collected enough trash to fill more than three garbage trucks. Some INC members also stayed behind to help clean the area after the rally ended.

After their gathering in Quezon City, INC members moved their protest to Liwasang Bonifacio on Thursday, July 2. The relocation came after the Quezon City government decided not to extend the permit allowing the group to continue its assembly along EDSA.

Authorities are continuing to monitor the situation to ensure public order, traffic flow, and cleanliness in areas where the demonstrations are being held. Cleanup crews also remain ready to respond after large public events.

The rally was also held to express support for Senator Rodante Marcoleta, who is facing recommended charges of plunder and three counts of indirect bribery over allegations that he failed to declare ₱75 million in campaign donations. The allegations remain part of an ongoing legal process, and no final court decision has been made.

Officials acknowledged the assistance provided by some rally participants during the cleanup and reminded the public to dispose of their waste properly during large gatherings. They emphasized that responsible waste disposal helps reduce the environmental impact of public events and allows cleanup operations to be completed more quickly and efficiently.
