Mayor Vico Sotto: ‘Sana Mas Marami Pang Makulong’ Amid Discaya Arrest
VICO SOTTO – The Pasig City mayor has spoken out following the arrest of controversial contractor Curlee Discaya, expressing hope that more individuals involved in corruption will also be held accountable. Discaya was arrested on June 8 after authorities served a warrant related to a malversation case connected to alleged irregularities in flood control projects in Bulacan.
In a statement shared on social media, Mayor Sotto said the arrest is a positive step in the fight against corruption, although he acknowledged that many Filipinos remain frustrated by the continued presence of corruption in the country. He pointed out that despite the challenges, there has been noticeable progress in exposing questionable government transactions and increasing public awareness about how deeply corruption can affect public institutions and services.
Sotto noted that the case involving the Discaya family has drawn significant public attention because of its alleged connection to controversial flood control projects, which have become a symbol of broader concerns about the misuse of public funds. He emphasized that the issue goes beyond a single project or a single group of individuals, saying it reflects larger weaknesses within systems that can be exploited by those seeking personal gain at the expense of the public.

The mayor also stressed the importance of maintaining public vigilance and continuing efforts to hold government officials and private individuals accountable for their actions. According to him, lasting change will only happen if citizens remain informed, think critically about issues affecting the country, and continue demanding transparency and responsible governance from public institutions.

Before his arrest, Curlee Discaya had spent nine months under Senate custody after being detained in September 2025. Meanwhile, his wife, Sarah Discaya, had already been arrested earlier and is currently being held at the Lapu-Lapu City Jail in Cebu. The developments mark another major step in the ongoing investigations into alleged corruption linked to government projects, as authorities continue pursuing those believed to be involved in the misuse of public resources.
