Security Threat Prompts Gatchalian to Suspend On-Site Senate Work
WIN GATCHALIAN – The Senate President Pro Tempore has ordered a work-from-home arrangement for Senate employees from June 10 to 11, 2026, following reports of a possible security threat within the Senate complex.
The decision was made to give authorities enough time to conduct security assessments, inspections, and other precautionary measures aimed at ensuring the safety of all personnel. According to the advisory, protecting Senate employees remains the top priority while security agencies carry out the necessary protocols and evaluations inside the premises.
The announcement came after information regarding a potential threat was relayed by National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Director Melvin Matibag. In response, Senate officials deemed it necessary to temporarily limit on-site operations and allow employees to work remotely while investigations and security checks are ongoing.

However, Gatchalian’s directive differs from an earlier advisory issued by Senator Alan Peter Cayetano, which instructed Senate personnel to continue reporting to work from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. until Thursday. The conflicting instructions reflect the continuing leadership dispute within the Senate following the change in leadership on June 3.
Since the leadership transition, groups aligned with Gatchalian and Cayetano have reportedly been issuing separate and sometimes contradictory advisories to Senate employees, creating confusion regarding official directives. Despite the ongoing power struggle, the Gatchalian-led camp is currently the group recognized by Malacañang and the House of Representatives as the legitimate Senate leadership.

The latest development highlights both the security concerns currently facing the Senate and the unresolved leadership conflict that continues to affect internal operations. While authorities focus on assessing and addressing the reported threat, Senate employees have been instructed to prioritize safety and comply with the work-from-home arrangement until further notice.
