PCP Suspends Dr. Tony Leachon for Six Months Over Ethics Violations
The Philippine College of Physicians (PCP) has suspended Dr. Anthony “Tony” Leachon for six months after finding him guilty of violating professional ethical standards, particularly for making public statements considered damaging to fellow medical professionals. The decision was issued by the PCP’s 13-member Board of Regents in a detailed 26-page ruling.
According to the board, Leachon violated the organization’s Code of Ethics by making public remarks against colleagues without sufficient proof or personal knowledge. The panel stated that he made accusations and claims of corruption and unethical behavior in public forums, which they said harmed the reputation of other physicians. Because of this, the PCP concluded that he failed to uphold the duties expected of a member of the medical community and should face disciplinary action.
The ethics complaint initially included accusations that Leachon misrepresented himself as an expert witness and spread incorrect information in relation to his opposition to the Dengvaxia anti-dengue vaccine issue. However, the PCP found no evidence supporting those specific claims. Instead, the board focused its ruling on his public statements against other professionals, which it considered defamatory and a violation of ethical rules.

Given the seriousness of the findings, the PCP imposed a six-month suspension from membership. The organization said the penalty was based on the nature of the violations and aligned with its internal rules on professional conduct.
In response, Leachon took to social media to express his disagreement with the decision. He said he is currently consulting with his lawyers to explore possible legal remedies. He also raised concerns that the disciplinary action and related complaints may be affecting his credibility, especially as legal cases related to the Dengvaxia controversy continue to progress.

Leachon maintained that he strongly disagrees with the ruling but emphasized that no administrative penalty can change the facts that will be presented in court. He also stressed that the suspension does not affect the right of affected families to seek justice or the obligation of witnesses to provide truthful testimony.
