Building Under Construction Collapses in Angeles City
The number of people who died in the collapse of a building under construction in Angeles City has risen to three as rescue teams continue searching for missing workers beneath the rubble.
The incident happened in Barangay Balibago, where a nine-story building suddenly collapsed, trapping several people inside. Authorities said another victim was recovered during ongoing rescue operations after responders worked through the night trying to reach those trapped in one section of the site. The victim reportedly suffered cardiac arrest while still trapped, but doctors were only able to officially confirm the death after the body was brought out and taken to the hospital.
Rescue operations remain difficult because of the unstable condition of the collapsed structure. Emergency responders are carefully removing debris by hand to avoid causing another collapse that could put both rescuers and trapped victims at risk. Heavy equipment is currently on standby but cannot yet be fully used because steel parts from the building are still connected, making the area very dangerous. Authorities explained that moving the debris too quickly or improperly could lead to further damage and injuries.

Search teams are also using thermal scanners and trained dogs to check for any possible signs of life under the rubble. Officials said rescue efforts will continue as long as there is hope of finding survivors. If no signs of life are detected, operations may shift fully into retrieval efforts. Based on information from the site engineer and families of workers who have not returned home, at least 18 people are still missing. Most of them are believed to be construction workers, although one vendor was also reported missing after the incident.

Nearby residents were evacuated for safety because of fears that more parts of the building could collapse. Authorities are continuing to monitor the situation closely while coordinating with families of the missing victims. Reports also said that the Malaysian embassy is already working with local officials regarding a foreign national who died in the tragedy. Meanwhile, the building owner has reportedly started communicating with the local government as investigations and rescue operations continue.
