Darryl Yap Says Pepsi Paloma Film Release Will Continue Despite Lawsuit
DARRYL YAP – The film director confirmed that he will continue defending his upcoming film The Rap*sts of Pepsi Paloma despite the ongoing cyberlibel case filed against him by Vic Sotto. The case was filed after a teaser of the film mentioned Sotto’s name, leading to legal action that is now being handled in court.
In an interview, Yap said the legal battle has been ongoing for months and has caused inconvenience to his daily schedule, but it has not affected his career since his projects are still under contract. He admitted that traveling between his home in Mandaluyong and his work locations has become more difficult due to court hearings, but he continues to work normally.
He shared that there is still a chance for a settlement since courts usually encourage both sides to discuss possible agreements. However, he said the final decision will depend on his lawyer and the opposing side, as the case is still active.

Despite the legal issues, Yap stressed that he still plans to release the film to the public and does not intend to cancel or hide it. He explained that the film reflects his personal vision and values, and he does not want to remove scenes simply because of pressure or inconvenience. He added that changing parts of the film would go against his principles as a filmmaker, and he wants to stand by his work even if it becomes controversial.
Yap also said that while he has seen Sotto and his wife Pauleen Luna during court proceedings, there has been no personal conversation between them.

Aside from the legal controversy, Yap’s new film Love, Ngo is also set for release soon. The movie stars Jerald Napoles and tells the story of a young man with a speech condition, along with supporting actors Gina Alajar and Candy Pangilinan, as well as social media personalities Malupiton and Jack Argota. The film is scheduled to be shown nationwide starting June 3.
