Chavit Singson to Imee Marcos: Convince Your Brother to Exit Gracefully
CHAVIT SINGSON – The former Ilocos Sur governor has urged Senator Imee Marcos to persuade her brother, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., to consider stepping down through what he described as a “graceful exit” amid the controversies facing the administration.
Speaking on a television program, Singson said he personally conveyed this suggestion to the senator, believing it would be the most appropriate course of action for the President under the current circumstances. He expressed concern over alleged irregularities tied to government flood control projects, claiming that the scale of the accusations could make it difficult for the President to avoid accountability.
He suggested that the situation has reached a point where the public is likely to uncover the truth, making it harder for the administration to maintain credibility. Because of this, he believes that stepping down voluntarily may help prevent further damage to both the President’s leadership and public trust.

“The best thing to do, you have to talk to your brother. Gumawa na siya ng paraan… graceful exit. Wala siyang lusot sa dami ng ninakaw, sa dami ng nawawala [pera], ang liwanag ng nakawan. No way na makakalusot siya, malalaman at malalaman ng tao. Graceful exit na lang. Sabihin niya napasama siya sa masamang mga kasamahang lider,” he said.

As part of this proposed exit, Singson advised that the President could acknowledge being influenced by the wrong people within his circle. According to him, admitting such a mistake may help ease public criticism and allow for a more dignified transition. He also floated the idea of placing the country under a temporary caretaker arrangement led by the Supreme Court, although this suggestion would raise serious constitutional questions.

Singson further warned that if the President chooses to remain in office despite the mounting issues, the outcome could be more difficult than what his late father experienced when he was removed from power during the 1986 People Power Revolution.
