Kiko Pangilinan Calls for Justice After Toboso, Negros Tragedy

Kiko Pangilinan Deeply Saddened by Deaths in Negros Occidental Clash

KIKO PANGILINAN – The senator expressed deep sadness over the deaths of 19 individuals in Toboso, Negros Occidental.

Among those who died were students from the University of the Philippines, which made the tragedy even more painful for many people. In his statement shared on April 29, he said he was heartbroken over the loss of lives and the violence between Filipinos, stressing that such events are always tragic, regardless of the reason behind them.

He called for a fast, independent, and credible investigation to fully understand what really happened. He emphasized the need to clearly establish the facts, determine the status of those who died, and hold accountable anyone who may have violated the law. For him, uncovering the truth is important to ensure justice and prevent similar incidents in the future.

The senator also expressed hope that no more families would suffer the loss of loved ones, whether they are soldiers or civilians. He highlighted the emotional toll such incidents bring not only to those directly involved but also to communities forced to leave their homes out of fear.

Authorities, including the Commission on Human Rights, have already started their own investigation into the incident, which reportedly involved a military operation in the area. This has increased calls for transparency and accountability.

In his personal message, Pangilinan said that as a father and former activist, the situation deeply affects him. He also pointed out that many Filipino families are already struggling with daily challenges such as poverty, unemployment, and broader national issues. Because of this, he stressed the importance of protecting both national security and human dignity.

He ended his statement by praying that no more families would have to experience the pain of losing a loved one due to conflict or violence, whether they are in the military or civilians, and called for peace and justice in the country.
