Jonvic Remulla: Atong Ang May Be in Vietnam
Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla said Philippine authorities are coordinating with officials in Vietnam to verify reports that businessman Atong Ang may be staying there.
He explained that the government is reaching out to its counterparts to review travel records and confirm his possible presence in the country. The Philippine National Police are already in contact with foreign authorities, and updates are expected soon. He also noted that the Philippines has an agreement with Vietnam that allows a suspect to be returned to face charges if necessary.
“Si Atong Ang ang latest balita namin nasa Vietnam,” he said. “Gumagawa kami ng diplomatic efforts para kausapin ‘yung counterparts namin doon para tignan ‘yung immigration record nila kung nandoon talaga,” he added.

Remulla added that Ang may have left the Philippines before the arrest warrants were issued. He is believed to have used an illegal route in Mindanao, passed through Malaysia, and later reached Vietnam about two weeks before authorities began taking action. These developments are linked to serious charges filed against Ang and others, including kidnapping with homicide and illegal detention. The case is connected to the disappearance of several cockfighting enthusiasts, widely known as the missing sabungeros.
“I think sa backdoor siya dumaan noong i-a-announce na aarestuhin na siya. Doon siya sa Mindanao papuntang Malaysia. Tapos umabot siyang Vietnam. Mga two weeks before nakaalis na via backdoor,” he said.

Ang has denied the accusations against him. Meanwhile, Philippine authorities have requested Interpol to issue a red notice, which is a global alert asking law enforcement agencies to locate and temporarily hold a person while legal steps are arranged for possible return. However, each country still follows its own laws when deciding whether to make an arrest.
To support the operation, the government is offering a reward of 20 million pesos to anyone who can provide information that may lead to Ang’s arrest.
