DILG Issues New Curfew for Minors: Stay Home by 10 PM

Government Enforces Curfew for Minors to Keep Streets Safer

The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) has issued a warning to minors about staying out late at night under new curfew regulations.

DILG Secretary Jonvic Remulla announced an “enhanced curfew” for youth aged 18 and below. Under this rule, minors who are not studying or working must be home by 10 p.m., and those unable to show proof of school or work during curfew hours may face consequences.

“Meron na tayong enhanced curfew ordinances para sa mga 18 years old and below. ‘Pag hindi kayo nag-aaral o nagtatrabaho, proof of employment or proof of education na nag-aaral kayo sa oras na ‘yon, pauwi kayo, bawal na kayo sa kalye after 10pm,” he said.

Secretary Remulla also addressed young people who gather in groups or roam the streets at night, urging them to return home immediately. He warned that anyone found on the streets after 10 p.m. will be taken into custody. This message particularly targets groups often associated with street trouble, signaling that authorities are serious about enforcing the rules.

The DILG emphasized that these measures are part of a broader plan to enhance public safety and reduce crime nationwide. Secretary Remulla assured the public that stricter enforcement, especially in busy areas, will help protect communities. He described the initiative as part of the “Safer Streets” program, designed to lower crime and make neighborhoods safer.

“Umuwi na kayo sa mga bahay n’yo. Yung mga rugby boys d’yan, yung mga geng geng d’yan, yung mga g*go sa kalye sa d’yan, magtago na kayo, umuwi na kayo. ‘Pag 10 o’clock huhulihin namin kayo,” he said. “We will make the Philippines safer. This is the safer streets initiatives, makakaasa po kayo na ang krimen ay bababa,” he added.

According to the Philippine National Police (PNP), reported crimes have decreased, with 2,269 incidents recorded in February 2026, down from 2,835 in February 2025. This trend reflects progress in crime reduction and reinforces the government’s commitment to public safety.
