Grade 10 Student Awarded 41 National and International Awards at Moving-Up Ceremony

Grade 10 Student from Butuan Dominates International Math and Science Competitions

John Michael “MJ” Camilosa Limbaga, a Grade 10 student from Agusan National High School in Butuan City, went viral for his extraordinary academic achievements.

During his moving-up ceremony, MJ was awarded more than 40 medals and certificates, taking three full minutes to receive all his accolades. His awards came from both national and international competitions, particularly in Mathematics, Science, and English, and he was also recognized with “With Highest Honors.”

MJ’s accomplishments have been widely shared on social media, vlogs, and regional news outlets, with some comparing him to record-breaking characters in popular media due to his exceptional performance. In a Facebook post, MJ reflected on how he had once been underestimated and labeled a “regular student,” proving that hard work, rather than just talent, is the key to success.

His achievements include gold medals from prestigious competitions such as the Hong Kong International Mathematical Olympiad, the Philippine International Math and Science Olympiad, the Angkor Mathematics Olympiad, the Thailand International Mathematical Olympiad, and the Hong Kong International Science Olympiad. He also earned multiple silver and bronze medals in other national and international contests. These successes helped elevate his school’s reputation as one of the most outstanding in the Philippines.

MJ credited his accomplishments to prayer, perseverance, and support from his family, friends, and mentors. He emphasized that life is not about proving yourself to others but about pursuing the life you truly want. His motto, “Do your best and God will do the rest,” reflects his philosophy and the countless hours of study, preparation, and personal sacrifice behind each medal.

Looking back, MJ described his journey as one of determination and grit, noting that every sleepless night, every effort to push beyond his limits, and every challenge he overcame was worth it. He reminds others that a gold medal shines not because of its color but because of the hard work and dedication invested in achieving it.
