Bongbong Marcos Says He Is Recovering From Diverticulitis; Nothing Serious

Bongbong Marcos Updates Public on His Health

President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has reassured the public that he is recovering well after being diagnosed with diverticulitis, a condition in which small pouches in the colon become inflamed or infected. In his latest vlog, released on Sunday, February 1, Marcos Jr. said his doctors gave him a positive assessment and emphasized that his condition is not serious. He explained that he just needs time to regain his strength.

In the video, the President greeted viewers warmly and shared a personal update, noting that he had lost weight after following a soup-only diet for several days. He described this as a positive change, joking that it felt like he was on a diet. The Palace previously clarified that a leaked copy of his supposed medical report, which suggested he might need surgery, was false.

Executive Secretary Ralph Recto also confirmed that Marcos Jr. was advised to take a short period of rest, comparing it to the routine care anyone might receive. Recto expressed confidence that the President would make a full recovery in the coming weeks.

Meanwhile, diverticulitis occurs when small pouches called diverticula form along the colon wall. These pouches can become inflamed or infected, often causing abdominal pain, diarrhea or constipation, fever, nausea, and sometimes rectal bleeding or mucus. Experts note that factors such as a low-fiber diet, excessive red meat consumption, being overweight, smoking, lack of exercise, and certain medications can increase the risk of developing the condition.

Most cases of diverticulitis can be managed successfully with proper care. Treatment typically involves antibiotics to reduce infection and inflammation, a temporary clear-liquid diet, and doctor-approved pain relief. In more severe cases, hospitalization may be necessary to administer medications intravenously, and surgery may be required if complications arise.
