Ian Veneracion and The Kingdom Not Participating in FAMAS Recognition
Ian Veneracion and the film The Kingdom declined recognition from the Filipino Academy of Movie Arts and Sciences at the 73rd FAMAS Awards and the inaugural Broadcast Arts Awards.
Despite FAMAS believing both were deserving of honors—The Kingdom for its production design and cinematography, and Ian Veneracion as a Child Icon of Philippine Cinema—both reportedly chose not to participate. FAMAS artistic director Vince Tañada revealed that repeated emails and personal attempts to reach the actors and the production went unanswered, leaving the organization unable to include them in the awards. The Kingdom, a joint project by APT Entertainment, MQuest Ventures, and MZet Television Productions directed by Michael Tuviera, features a notable cast including Piolo Pascual, Cristine Reyes, Sue Ramirez, and Vic Sotto, who also declined FAMAS nomination despite being considered.
The first FAMAS Broadcast Arts Awards, set for May 4, 2026, at the Manila Hotel, will recognize excellence across radio, television, and new media. There are 28 competitive categories: eight in radio and 20 in television and online platforms, covering programs, anchors, series, anthologies, podcasts, lifestyle shows, and more. Two special awards—the Broadcast Arts Icon Award and the Broadcast Arts Breakthrough Award—will also be presented. Bronze FAMAS trophies will be given to winners, with female awardees holding a play button instead of the traditional film reel. Eligible entries must have aired or been released between January 1, 2024, and December 31, 2025.

Tañada emphasized that FAMAS uses a multi-sectoral jury system, including students, housewives, artists, politicians, and business professionals, to ensure diverse perspectives in selecting nominees and winners. The aim is to honor talent across all platforms equally, from free TV to streaming and social media, without favoritism.

While some nominees declined to participate, FAMAS remains committed to recognizing outstanding work in Philippine media, ensuring that talent and excellence remain the focus. Even with high-profile snubs, the organization continues to celebrate achievements fairly and inclusively.
