Delivery Rider Narrowly Escapes Death After Jumping Into River

VALENZUELA CITY – A 22-year-old delivery rider almost died after attempting to take his own life by jumping into a river.

The incident reportedly happened after he felt hurt and frustrated when his mother scolded him and refused to give him money. It occurred around 8:30 a.m. at Polo Bridge in Barangay Poblacion, where he rode his motorcycle to the site before climbing into the water, intending to end his life.

Witnesses saw him about to jump and immediately called the local police for help. Officers P/SSg. Reileto Jasa and Pat. Keanu Colis quickly responded and found the young man at the edge of the river. Working together, they were able to pull him out and prevent a tragedy. Valenzuela Police Chief P/Col. Joseph Talento said the man changed his mind after entering the water and began swimming toward the riverbank, where authorities and traffic enforcers safely rescued him.

After the incident, the police have been coordinating with the young man’s family to ensure he is safe and receives the help he needs. Authorities emphasized the importance of acting quickly in such situations and noted that the witnesses’ prompt response likely saved his life. The incident highlights the emotional pressures faced by young people and the need for family support and mental health care, especially during personal or financial conflicts.

The delivery rider is now safe and receiving attention, while the police continue to work with his family to make sure he has proper care and counseling. The quick response of law enforcement, combined with the community’s support, prevented a potential tragedy and underscored the importance of immediate action in emergencies.

This case serves as a reminder of the need for mental health awareness and how community support and timely intervention can help prevent self-harm, particularly for young people experiencing emotional stress or personal difficulties.
