Drunk Passenger Threatens Move It Rider in Marikina

MOVE IT RIDER — A 23-year-old ride-hailing driver from Marikina City, Angelo Lopez, experienced a frightening situation after being threatened and verbally abused by a drunk man who tried to force his way onto Lopez’s motorcycle. The incident occurred on Christmas Day, December 25, 2025, at around 10:50 a.m., near the corner of J.M. Basa Street and J.P. Rizal Street in Marikina.

Lopez, who works as a Move It rider, was on his way to start his shift and had briefly stopped at a burger shop to buy food. In addition to working as a rider, he also has another job as a guest service attendant at a mall, using motorcycle riding as a second source of income to support himself honestly.

While he was stopped, a man approached him and demanded to be taken to a certain destination. The man had not booked a ride through the app and appeared intoxicated. Due to company rules and safety concerns, Lopez refused to accept the passenger. This angered the man, who then began verbally abusing him.

According to Lopez, the man shouted insults, cursed at him, and even struck him on the head. The situation escalated when the man repeatedly threatened to harm him, claiming he would use a “gripo,” a term commonly understood as a weapon or tool used to hurt someone. The man also acted as if he was reaching into his bag, which made Lopez fear that he might actually pull out something dangerous.

Fearing for his safety, Lopez decided to turn on the dash camera installed on his motorcycle to record the encounter. The audio clearly captured the threats and aggressive language directed at him. Despite the fear and tension, Lopez tried his best to remain calm and avoid provoking the man further, hoping to prevent the situation from escalating.
