Harry Roque Defends Suspended Cavite Congressman Kiko Barzaga
HARRY ROQUE – The former Presidential Spokesperson voiced his support for Cavite 4th District Representative Kiko Barzaga, who was recently suspended by the House of Representatives.
In a video statement on December 4, Roque insisted that Barzaga, known as “Meow Meow,” should not only be reinstated but should also be made House Speaker for his courage and principled stance as a young lawmaker. Roque emphasized that lawmakers who show bravery and stand firm on their beliefs deserve recognition rather than punishment.
“Dapat talagang palakpakan ang mga matatapang, ang mga naninindigan, mga batang mambabatas, gaya ni Cong Meow Meow,” Roque said. “Hindi po siya dapat suspendihin, dapat nga gawin siyang House Speaker,” he added.
Roque further suggested that under the administration of Vice President Sara Duterte, Barzaga is the right choice for House Speaker. He argued that if certain unpopular leaders are removed, it would be an opportune moment to restore Barzaga’s position and give him the leadership role, reversing the suspension imposed on him.
“Kaya nga po kung matatanggal ang Marcos bangag na ‘yan. Importante siguro, sa ilalim ni Vice President Sara Duterte, eh dapat nga siguro eh maging House Speaker si Cong Meow Meow at bawian ang lahat ng binoto para sa pagkasuspinde n’ya,” the former presidential spokesperson said.
Meanwhile, Kiko Barzaga was suspended on December 1 for 60 days following a House vote, where 249 representatives supported his suspension, five opposed it, and 11 abstained. Roque’s comments highlight his belief in rewarding integrity and principled action in government, especially among younger legislators, and call for corrective measures to ensure that elected officials who act courageously are given the recognition and leadership roles they deserve.
