Dismissed Police Officer Arrested Under Anti-Carnapping Law
A dismissed police officer was arrested in Bacolod City for allegedly stealing a motorcycle parked outside a home in a subdivision in Barangay Cabug at around 1:10 a.m. on November 19.
According to Police Captain Andy Ofalia, head of Police Station 9, the motorcycle owner, identified as Alyas Jofranz, discovered that his vehicle had been taken. He immediately sought the help of the subdivision’s security personnel, who coordinated with authorities and responded promptly.
Investigations revealed that the owner positively identified his stolen motorcycle, a red-and-white Suzuki Raider FU, in the possession of the suspect, Alyas Wen, a 46-year-old man. Captain Ofalia added that authorities are still looking into the suspect’s background. Initial findings indicate that Wen had previous cases, including motorcycle theft in the downtown area and physical injury. He had since been dismissed from the police force, previously holding the rank of PO1.

Police Station 9 is preparing to file charges against the suspect under RA 10883, also known as The New Anti-Carnapping Act of 2016. Wen is currently in the custodial facility of Police Station 9, awaiting the formal filing of the case. Authorities emphasized their commitment to pursuing the case swiftly and ensuring that the suspect is held accountable for his actions.

This incident stressed ongoing concerns regarding criminal behavior among former law enforcement officers and the importance of swift coordination between citizens, security personnel, and police authorities. The owner’s quick action, along with the cooperation of the subdivision’s guards, played a crucial role in the suspect’s arrest, preventing potential further incidents. Police continue to investigate Wen’s background and any other potential criminal activities to ensure public safety and reinforce the rule of law in the community.
