SARA DUTERTE – The Vice President sought accountability amid the corruption issues in the Philippine government.

The supposed multi-billion flood control corruption in the Philippines angered countless Filipinos. Last September 21, thousands of people joined the so-called “Trillion Peso March” to express their disappointment over the alleged massive corruption in the government.

Countless people called for accountability over the supposed flood control corruption in the Philippines following the massive flooding when the recent calamities hit the country. Typhoon Tino brought massive flash flood in the provinces of Cebu and Negros. Pres. Ferdinand Marcos Jr. declared a national state of calamity due to typhoon Tino and the then looming super typhoon “Uwan”. Many Filipinos were affected by the flood.

Recently, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte visited the province of Negros which was hit by Typhoon Tino and delivered relief assistance for the typhoon victims. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, during a chance interview in Negros Occidental, the Vice President expressed seeking for accountability over the corruption and flood control issues in the Philippine government.

“Ngayon, nalaman natin hindi lang pala ang 2025 budget ang may problema, 2024, as early as 2023 ay  mayroon nang… mga anomalya sa budget,” she said.

Vice Pres. Sara Duterte claimed that, allegedly, many overseas Filipinos workers (OFWs) are “already angry” amid the corruption issues in the Philippines. According to her, she supposedly talked to Marcos Jr. on the 2025 budget issues when she was still the secretary of the Department of Education.

Based on the report, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte stressed that no one has yet to be punished over the flood control and corruption issues in the country until now. According to her, only investigations are happening.

“Alam na natin na mayroong problema sa budget, alam na natin kung sino yung mga tao na may kagagawan noong anomalya, korapsyon sa ating budget pero hanggang ngayon ay wala pa ring nananagot, puro lang imbestigasyon,” the Vice President said.

The flood control investigation is led by the Independent Commission for Infrastructure or ICI, a three-member body that was formed upon the order of Pres. Bongbong Marcos. It submitted a report to the Office of the Ombudsman suggesting the filing of charges against some individuals linked to the flood control issue including Zaldy Co and senators Jinggoy Estrada and Joel Villanueva.

The Senate is also set to resume its flood control probe. According to Sen. Ping Lacson, they will invite Zaldy Co to attend the flood control hearing via Zoom.
