Marcos Jr. Confident LGU Executives Won’t Be Involved in Ghost Projects: “Araw-araw ay minumura kayo ng mga constituents ninyo kung hindi tama ang trabaho ninyo”

Statement of Marcos Jr. on Speeding Up the Classroom Constructions in PH with LGU

MARCOS JR. – The President is confident that the executives of the local government units will not be involved in the ghost projects.

Several congressmen and senators were linked to the flood control issue in the Philippines. The supposed multi-billion corruption urged thousands of Filipinos to gather in the streets and protest last September 21. It was called the “Trillion Peso March”.

Aside from the senators and congressmen, several officials of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) were also involved in the flood control issue. Amid the supposed multi-billion corruption, Marcos Jr. ordered an independent probe team to be formed to investigate the flood control issue in the country. Currently, the probe on the alleged ghost and substandard flood control projects as well as the supposed multi-billion corruption is ongoing.

Amid the flood control issue in the Philippines, Department of Education (DepEd) Secretary Sonny Angara was disappointed over the report that the DPWH finished the construction of only 20 out of 1,700 classrooms that it targets to build this 2025. According to him, it seems that they were allegedly too engrossed in the flood control projects.

“Mukhang nawili sila sa flood control sa totoo lang eh. Matamaan na kung sino ang matamaan pero parang hindi na naging priority yung pagtayo ng classrooms,” the DepEd Chief said.

Amid the lack of classrooms in the government schools in the country, DepEd Sec. Sonny Angara is pushing for the public-private partnership to speed up the constructions of the much-needed classrooms. Recently, Marcos Jr. spoke on the pursuit for classroom-building.

Based on a report on GMA News, Pres. Bongbong Marcos announced that the government units will be provided with the direct funding for the classroom building and rehabilitation. Marcos Jr. also expressed his confidence that the LGU executives will not be involved in ghost projects.

According to the President, the LGU executives will have to face the daily complaints of the constituents if they will engage in the ghost or substandard projects. He hopes that the LGUs will speed up the construction of classrooms.

Based on the report, Pres. Bongbong Marcos stressed that the closer coordination between the national government and the LGUs for the classroom construction is part of the “new concept” that the government is adopting. Under the new scheme, the LGUs will handle the funds while the DPWH is the one that will monitor the construction of the classrooms.

Previously, amid the political turmoil in the government, Malacañang took swipe at Vice Pres. Sara Duterte saying that DepEd Sec. Sonny Angara is cleaning the alleged mess she left behind.
