Gatchalian to Dizon: “Mukha ka nang 80 years old”
WIN GATCHALIAN — The senator expressed concern for Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Vince Dizon during a Senate Committee on Finance hearing held on Monday, October 20. Before discussing the proposed 2026 DPWH budget, Gatchalian took a moment to praise Dizon for his hard work and dedication, recalling their time working together during the pandemic.
The senator described Dizon as a fast, efficient, and decisive worker who proved his commitment when he served as the country’s testing czar. Gatchalian said he believed Dizon could clean up and reform the DPWH, even though it would be a tough challenge.
“Nakatrabaho kita during the pandemic time, where you were the testing czar of our country. I know how you work. You work fast, you work efficient, and you work decisive. So, I know you will be able to clean up and reform the Department of Public Works and Highways. It’s a big challenge, alam ko,” the senator said.

However, Gatchalian couldn’t help but notice Dizon’s physical changes, expressing concern about his health and the stress he might be experiencing. The senator joked that Dizon had become even thinner and looked older, saying that he used to look 50 but now looked 80. He added in a light tone that at least the secretary still had thick hair.
“Dati payat ka na, lalo ka pang pumayat. Dati mukha kang 50 years old, ngayon mukha ka nang 80 years old. Buti makapal pa ang buhok n’yo Secretary,” Gatchalian said. The comment made everyone in the room laugh, including Dizon, who smiled and touched his hair in response.

In earlier interviews, Dizon admitted that his responsibilities had become very demanding and exhausting due to the issues within the agency. He candidly said that there are times he feels like he can no longer handle everything, but he continues to perform his duties out of dedication to public service.
