Sara Duterte: “Kung ako ay tinapay, ako ay isang ensaymada”

Vice Pres. Sara Duterte Attends World Pandesal Day Forum

SARA DUTERTE – The Vice President claimed that she is an “ensaymada” if she is a bread while criticizing President Bongbong Marcos, former House Speaker Martin Romualdez, and resigned Ako Bicol Partylist Representative Zaldy Co.

The political division in the Philippine government is no secret to the Filipino people amid the supposed multi-billion flood control corruption issue. It was when Vice Pres. Duterte resigned from being the secretary of the Department of Education or DepEd that the public noticed the souring relationship between her and Pres. Bongbong Marcos.

Recently, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte attended a news forum during the World Pandesal Day. She was asked some questions including what she will be if she is a bread. According to the Vice President, if she is a bread, she is an “ensaymada”.

According to Vice Pres. Duterte, she loves to eat ensaymada and her mother, Elizabeth Zimmerman, loved eating this bread when she was still pregnant with her. It is a sweet, brioche-style bread that is topped with butter, sugar, and grated cheese.

“Paborito ko ang ensaymada, pinaglihi ako sa ensaymada. So kung ako ay tinapay, ako ay isang ensaymada,” she said.

With regards to Pres. Bongbong Marcos, former House Speaker Martin Romualdez, and Zaldy Co, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte claimed that they are “definitely not bread”. According to her, their attitude and alleged corruption cannot be taken.

“Definitely, hindi sila tinapay dahil hindi makain ‘yung ugali nila at hindi makain ‘yung korupsyon nila,” the Vice President said.

Both Romualdez and Co were tagged in the flood control issue in the Philippines. However, Co was already in the United States when the accusations against him broke out. He resigned from being the representative of Ako Bicol Partylist as he refused to return to the country.

Amid the calls for Zaldy Co to return to the country and to cancel his passport, based on a report on Inquirer, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) denied the insinuations that the agency is allegedly “lawyering” for him. DFA spokesperson Angelica Escalona explained that there is allegedly a process for cancelling an individual’s passport.

Amid the supposed multi-billion flood control corruption, there are calls for the President to step down. However, according to Vice Pres. Sara Duterte, she is not calling for Marcos Jr. to resign as he will allegedly not do it but she has a different call.
