American Man Earns Praise Online for Speaking Fluent Tagalog
An American man from Dallas, Texas earns admiration of many Filipinos online for his impressive ability to speak fluent Tagalog.
Recently, Instagram users @hella.basa and @senyorita_ako, shared a video of an American man, who works as a local police officer, was seen warmly conversing in Tagalog during a casual interaction.
The foreigner’s cheerful tone and natural use of the language instantly amazed viewers, especially since it’s rare to hear a foreigner speak Tagalog so comfortably. The video quickly spread like wildfire on social media.
“Sabi ko, Sino ba ‘yung nagta-Tagalog? Hala, ‘Kano? Galing, ‘no? Bihira akong makakita no’n,” she said.
The uploader shared that they were surprised upon hearing someone speaking Tagalog, only to find out that it was an American police officer. The man explained that he learned to speak the language because his wife is Filipino.
“Simula noon pa, talagang mahal na mahal ko ang bansa na Pilipinas. Talagang kalahati ng puso ko ay naging Pilipino,” she added.
Over time, he grew fond of the Philippines, saying that half of his heart now feels Filipino. He also shared his love for Filipino food, naming adobo, lomi, and pancit as his favorites. Beyond the food, what he loved most, he said, were the people, describing Filipinos as joyful and kind.
He expressed a strong desire to return to the Philippines someday, saying he misses the warmth and happiness of the locals.
Many admired his effort to embrace Filipino culture and language, saying it showed genuine respect and affection for the country.
