Vice Pres. Sara Duterte Issues Statement amid Dad Rodrigo’s Continued Detention under the ICC in The Hague
SARA DUTERTE – The Vice President that they received a credible information that former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte was allegedly found unconscious in the floor of his International Criminal Court (ICC) room.
Former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte remains detained under the custody of the ICC in The Hague, Netherlands for more than six (6) months now. The ICC previously revealed that Duterte is facing three (3) counts of murder “as crimes against humanity” charges filed against him by the prosecutor.
The Duterte camp has a pending request to the ICC for the former President’s ICC release. It was in June when his lawyer, Nicholas Kaufman, first submitted Duterte’s application for interim release but initially asked the court to hold off in deciding over the matter as they still await some documents and information that will support the plea.
In August, the lawyer of former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte renewed their application for his interim release. Recently, Duterte’s camp said they are ready to accept any condition from the ICC over the interim release of the former President. Vice Pres. Sara Duterte previously claimed that a “third country” has committed to host the interim release of her father.
Recently, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte issued a statement wherein she claimed that they allegedly received “credible information” that her father, former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte, was supposedly brought to the hospital after he was found unconscious on the floor of his ICC room. In her statement, the Vice President also claimed that her father was brought to the hospital for laboratory tests following the “accident”.
“The family was not informed of the “accident” and no explanation was given. These alarming developments raise grave concerns about the capacity of the ICC to guarantee the security and safety of FPRRD,” Vice Pres. Duterte said.
In her statement, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte also claimed that even the most basic care for the complaint of an ingrown toenail cannot be allegedly done fast. She stressed that such condition is “easily treatable”. According to her, the court has persistently ignored her father’s need for a 24-hour bedside caregiver.
“The continued detention of Former President Duterte under such troubling conditions is not only unjust but inhumane. It amounts to punishment without having been convicted of any crime,” she stated in her statement:
Previously, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte claimed that the ICC allegedly allowed “fake welfare checks” by the Philippine Embassy officials to former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte. According to her, a report about her father was allegedly sent to Pres. Bongbong Marcos.
