Daniel Quisa-ot: From Jail to Licensed Engineer with Four Professional Licenses

Engineer Daniel Quisa-ot Earns Four Licenses After Prison

Daniel Quisa-ot, a 27-year-old electrical engineer, overcame tremendous challenges to achieve his dreams. Despite spending two years in prison and losing his father shortly after his release, Daniel now holds four professional licenses and works for the government. His journey from a promising scholar to a person deprived of liberty, and eventually to a licensed professional, is a powerful story of resilience, determination, and faith.

Daniel was once a top student at Central Mindanao University in Bukidnon, where he studied Electrical Engineering. A DOST scholar and Dean’s Lister, he was well-known as a math wizard and quiz champion, with big dreams of providing a better life for his family. However, in 2019, just before completing his final semester, he was imprisoned. Daniel chose not to share details about his case but revealed that it forced him to drop his remaining subjects and temporarily stop his studies.

Thankfully, his university gave him the opportunity to continue learning. His lessons and exams were delivered to him through his mother during visitation days. Even his thesis reflected his situation—he designed a jail alarm and communication system to improve safety inside the facility, completing the project with the help of fellow inmates. Despite the circumstances, Daniel managed to graduate while behind bars.

While in prison, Daniel faced another painful trial when his father was diagnosed with Stage 4 colon cancer. His father eventually became bedridden and could no longer visit him. Two years later, Daniel’s case was dismissed, and he was released. Sadly, his father passed away just a week after Daniel regained his freedom.

Determined to move forward, Daniel turned his hardships into motivation. In 2021, he took two licensure exams—for electrical engineer and master electrician—without any formal review and passed both, adding to the two licenses he had previously earned.

Now working as a government electrical engineer, Daniel hopes his journey will inspire others facing challenges. He believes that no matter how tough life gets, one’s destiny and purpose remain the same. For him, perseverance and faith are the keys to overcoming struggles and achieving one’s goals.
