Curlee Discaya Cited for Lying During Flood Control Hearing

CURLEE DISCAYA – The controversial contractor was cited in contempt by the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee for allegedly lying about the reason behind his wife Sarah Discaya’s absence during the Senate hearing on flood control project anomalies held on September 18.

During the session, Curlee claimed that Sarah was unable to attend because of a heart condition. However, a letter Sarah sent to the committee revealed a different explanation. In her letter, Sarah stated that she could not attend the hearing because she had an important, long-scheduled meeting with her company employees to discuss urgent problems the company is currently facing.

This direct contradiction immediately drew the attention of the senators. Several committee members pointed out the inconsistency between Curlee’s statement and Sarah’s written explanation. Senator Erwin Tulfo expressed his disappointment, questioning why Curlee and Sarah did not coordinate their statements before the hearing. Tulfo firmly told Curlee, “You lied. Paano pa kami maniniwala sa pinagsasabi mo?”

The conflicting statements frustrated the senators, who stressed that honesty and transparency are crucial during official inquiries. Because of this, the committee voted to cite Curlee in contempt. This ruling allows the Senate to detain him for providing false information, which is considered a serious offense during a legislative investigation.

The committee also discussed issuing a show cause order to Sarah Discaya, requiring her to explain her absence and clarify the real reason she did not attend the hearing.

Meanwhile, Sarah and Pacifico “Curlee” Discaya own several construction companies that have been awarded billions of pesos worth of government flood control projects. They are now at the center of a major corruption scandal after claiming that some lawmakers and officials demanded 10–25% kickbacks in exchange for project approvals under the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).
