Ricky Hatton’s Cause of Death Revealed

Cause of Death of Ricky Hatton

RICKY HATTON – The British boxing legend, famously known as “The Hitman,” has passed away at the age of 46.

While his family has not disclosed the exact cause of his death, a close friend and boxing commentator, Steve Bunce, hinted that Hatton may have taken his own life on September 14, 2025. Bunce expressed deep shock, saying it was hard to believe, especially since Hatton seemed to be in a much better place in recent years.

“It’s an unbelievably shocking piece of news because he was in a really good place,” Bunce said in an emotional interview. “Had it been 10 years ago, when he talked openly about considering ending his life, had it been 10 years ago when he was in one of the darkest places any man can be, it would have been, I guess, understandable. But at the moment, I’m genuinely shocked by it. I mean, genuinely, I’m amazed by it.”

Hatton had a well-known history of mental health struggles, dr*g addiction, and previous attempts to end his life. These challenges worsened after his devastating knockout loss to Manny Pacquiao during their highly anticipated fight, “The Battle of East & West,” held in Las Vegas on May 2, 2009. That defeat deeply affected Hatton, making it difficult for him to regain his confidence and stability both inside and outside the ring.

Following his passing, Hatton’s name quickly resurfaced in international headlines alongside Pacquiao’s, as many recalled how that fight marked a major turning point in his life and career.

In a heartfelt statement, Hatton’s family described him as more than just a world champion. They remembered him as a loving son, father, grandfather, brother, and loyal friend, whose kindness and humor touched everyone around him. They shared that their grief is immeasurable, but they have been comforted by the overwhelming love and support from fans and the boxing community worldwide.

The family also requested privacy as they grieve, adding that Hatton’s legacy will live on, not only through his boxing achievements but also through the countless lives he inspired with his fighting spirit, humility, and unwavering love for the sport.
