Netizens Question the Lifestyle of Kiko Barzaga
KIKO BARZAGA – The Cavite 4th District representative, also known by his nickname “Congressmeow,” is facing strong criticism online after speaking out about corruption in the Philippines.
Barzaga recently called out House Speaker Martin Romualdez over alleged irregularities in government flood control projects in Cavite. His statements came shortly after he left his political party, the National Unity Party (NUP), and withdrew his support for the House majority bloc.
His sudden move sparked rumors that he was involved in a plan to remove Romualdez as House Speaker. Barzaga strongly denied this, saying his decision was made independently and was not part of any plot. Still, his comments stirred controversy online, leading many to take a closer look at his own life and actions.
Netizens began posting photos on social media allegedly showing Barzaga living a luxurious lifestyle. These images quickly went viral, with many questioning whether he had the right to criticize others about corruption. Some even called him a “nepo baby” because he comes from a well-known political family in Cavite. This fueled discussions about political dynasties and whether politicians from such families can genuinely fight corruption.
Many online commenters expressed doubt about Barzaga’s intentions. Meanwhile, Barzaga is the son of former Cavite 4th District Representative Pidi Barzaga and current Dasmariñas City Mayor Jenny Barzaga. Before becoming a congressman, he served as a local councilor. Currently, three members of the Barzaga family hold key positions: Kiko as congressman, his mother, Jenny, as mayor, and his brother, Thirdy, as vice mayor.
