Claudine Co Faces Backlash Over Glamorous Lifestyle
CLAUDINE CO – The lifestyle vlogger is now facing heavy criticism after her luxurious lifestyle was linked to her family’s involvement in controversial government projects.
She is the daughter of former Ako Bicol Partylist Representative Christopher Co, co-founder of Hi-Tone Construction and Development Corporation, and the niece of Ako Bicol Representative Rizaldy Co, CEO of the Sunwest Group of Companies and former head of the House Committee on Appropriations. These companies were included in President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s list of the Top 15 contractors awarded billions of pesos worth of government projects by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) from 2023 to 2025.
Because of this, Claudine’s social media content is now being viewed differently. On her YouTube channel and Instagram, she often showcased her life of comfort and wealth—flying on private planes with her family, traveling to nearly 40 countries, and wearing designer clothes with luxury bags worth millions of pesos. While many people once admired her lifestyle, others are now questioning if her family’s wealth came from projects funded by taxpayers.

This situation is similar to what happened to the Discaya couple, who were criticized for flaunting their riches in interviews. Like them, Claudine has become the focus of public anger, with many accusing her of enjoying luxuries while ordinary Filipinos continue to struggle with poverty.

Social media, especially X (formerly Twitter), has been flooded with negative reactions. Some joked that the price of one of her bags could already pay for a year’s tuition. Others said they work day and night just to survive, while Claudine flaunts a life of endless vacations. A few even suggested that she be invited to the Senate to show her wealth there.

Because of the backlash, Claudine has deactivated or made her social media accounts private. What once inspired her followers has now turned into a reminder of inequality. For many Filipinos, her posts are no longer seen as simple displays of luxury—they feel like an insult to those who work hard every day yet still struggle to make ends meet.
