BATO DELA ROSA – The Senate led the prayer after the opening of the Senate session and mentioned the case of Vice President Sara Duterte.
The 20th Congress has officially opened and the senators are now back to work. One of the matters that countless Filipinos await the Senate to discuss is about the ruling of the Supreme Court over the impeachment complaint against Vice Pres. Sara Duterte.

The Supreme Court declared Duterte’s impeachment articles “unconstitutional”” citing that it allegedly did not follow the one-year rule. Four impeachment complaints were filed against the Vice President in 2024 but the complainants maintained that the previous complaints were not referred to the committee.

According to the Supreme Court, its recent ruling does not dismisses the previous charges filed against Duterte. While the decision is immediately executory, a motion for reconsideration may be filed. Some complainants have previously made a move seeking for the reversal of the court’s decision.
The House of Representatives also filed a motion for reconsideration. The lower chamber even asked the Senate to wait for the appeal before deciding whether or not to dismiss the impeachment case against the Vice President.
Senate Pres. Chiz Escudero previously claimed that the Senate will decide on the Supreme Court ruling over Vice Pres. Sara Duterte’s impeachment complaint on August 6. According to the Senate Chief, it will give the senators ample time to study the matter.

The camp of the Vice President welcomed the ruling of the Supreme Court raying that the rule of law has once again prevailed. Vice Pres. Duterte thanked her legal team as well as the petitioners and those who prayed for justice for her.

Recently, after the opening of the session in the Senate as per a report on Inquirer, Sen. Bato dela Rosa led a prayer wherein he mentioned about the Supreme Court ruling over Vice Pres. Sara Duterte’s case. He asked for clarity and wisdom for the senators.
“We ask you, Holy Spirit, to feel and move us in our debates and discussions on various issues of national interests, including the recent Supreme Court ruling on the impeachment of Vice President Sara Duterte. May we not be ruled by our anger and hatred, not even by our personal alliances and biases. Instead, may we be guided by the clarity and wisdom that only your spirit can provide,” Dela Rosa said.

Furthermore, based on the report, Sen. Bato dela Rosa also asked the Holy Spirit for the unity in the Senate in their deliberations that they may unite in achieving “what is right and life-giving” for the chamber, the country, and the world.
Sen. Bato dela Rosa is one of the members of the so-called Duterte bloc in the Senate. Ahead of August 6, Deputy Minority Leader Risa Hontiveros claimed she will block all motions seeking to dismiss the impeachment trial of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte.
