Totoy Files Charges vs. 12 Cops in Missing Sabungeros Case

12 Cops Face Complaints Over Missing Sabungeros

JULIE “DONDON” PATIDONGAN – The whistleblower, also known as Totoy, has officially filed complaints against 12 police officers allegedly involved in the disappearance of several sabungeros (cockfighting enthusiasts). Patidongan, along with family members of the missing men, submitted the complaints at the main office of the National Police Commission (Napolcom) in Quezon City.

Napolcom Vice Chairperson Rafael Vicente Calinisan said the complaints are still under review, but based on Patidongan’s statements, the officers could face serious administrative charges such as grave misconduct and conduct unbecoming of a police officer.

Patidongan’s testimony has played a key role in the investigation. Once accused as one of the security guards involved in the abductions, he later turned whistleblower and revealed disturbing details: the sabungeros were allegedly strangled with tie wires and their bodies dumped in Taal Lake. He also claimed that certain police officers were paid to carry out the kidnappings and killings. His revelations prompted Napolcom to launch an official investigation.

Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla confirmed that 15 police officers are now under investigation for possible involvement in the case. According to PNP Chief Gen. Nicolas Torre III, these officers are being held under restrictive custody at Camp Crame, Quezon City. Of the 15 officers, eleven remain active in service, one has retired, and three were dismissed even before their possible connection to the case surfaced. The highest-ranking officer involved is a lieutenant colonel.

Gen. Torre added that more police officers could be linked to the case as the investigation continues. Patidongan’s testimony remains crucial in uncovering the truth behind the missing sabungeros. Families of the victims remain hopeful that justice will soon be served.
