Open Letter Slams Ricky Reyes, Renee Salud, and Toni Gonzaga
A heartfelt open letter has gone viral, calling out Ricky Reyes, Renee Salud, and Toni Gonzaga for their remarks during a Toni Talks Pride Month episode.
Sho Komori, the author of the letter, expressed deep disappointment, saying the episode could have been a moment of empowerment for the LGBTQIA+ community—but instead promoted outdated and harmful views.
Ricky Reyes recalled painful experiences from his past, such as being hung upside down and locked in a chicken cage, which he described as “tough love.” The letter argued this wasn’t love—but abuse—and emphasized the danger of passing such a mindset to the younger generation. Reyes also gave advice that portrayed gay love as one-sided and transactional, implying that gay men should expect to give money in relationships and accept that they may never be genuinely loved in return.

Renee Salud spoke about the need to adapt and settle for being tolerated rather than fully accepted. While he discussed how fashion evolves over time, the letter pointed out the irony of not applying the same growth to LGBTQIA+ rights and dignity. Both Reyes and Salud also rejected same-s3x marriage and the SOGIE Bill, labeling these as “too much.” Reyes even proudly claimed he helped stop the bill from passing.

Toni Gonzaga was criticized for choosing to spotlight guests who oppose LGBTQIA+ rights during Pride Month—missing the opportunity to uplift and support the community.
The letter ended with a powerful message: LGBTQIA+ people should not be expected to suffer or shrink themselves just to be loved. Pride is not about silence or settling for less—it’s about progress, dignity, and respect.
“We’re not your baklang hamburger,” the letter concluded. “We are whole. We are worthy. And we’re done shrinking to fit the mold you found safety in.”
