Former Cashier Arrested for Stealing Multiple Times From Caloocan Supermarket

Caloocan Cashier Faces 5 Counts of Qualified Theft

THEFT – A 35-year-old former cashier has been arrested for allegedly stealing multiple times from the supermarket where she used to work in Caloocan. She was apprehended at her home in Barangay Tonsuya, Malabon, on Wednesday after authorities confirmed her return to the Philippines.

The arrest was based on a warrant connected to a series of thefts that reportedly took place in 2020. According to police, the complaint was filed by her former employer, which triggered the investigation.

Police Lieutenant Alexander Manalo of the Malabon Police Warrant and Subpoena Section explained how the alleged scheme worked. While employed as a cashier, the woman reportedly failed to scan some of the items her co-workers were purchasing. After completing the transactions, the group would then split the value of the unpaid items among themselves. Manalo emphasized that this was not an isolated incident, as it allegedly occurred on five separate occasions.

He explained that the suspect’s co-workers would buy items, but she, as the cashier, would not scan all of them. Once the fraudulent transaction was complete, the group would divide the proceeds of the stolen goods.

Before the arrest warrant was issued, the suspect had already left the country to work as a domestic helper in Saudi Arabia. She returned to the Philippines in 2023. Once authorities confirmed she was back, they tracked her down and arrested her at her home.

When asked for a statement, the suspect declined to comment, saying she would only respond in court. She is now facing five counts of qualified theft and is currently being held at the Malabon City Police Station.

The case has attracted public attention due to the alleged coordination among employees. Authorities are reminding business owners to remain vigilant and ensure that internal monitoring systems are in place to prevent similar incidents.
