Man Loses ₱80K to Online Scatter Game

Scatter Game Costs Player ₱80,000

SCATTER – A man identified as John shared his experience of losing around ₱80,000 to an online gambling game.

In an interview with Aksyon Abante on Abante Radyo, he spoke about how the game gradually drained his finances over the course of nearly a year. John said he started playing scatter in September 2024 after seeing enticing ads on his e-wallet app, GCash. Clicking the ad led him directly to the game, making it easily accessible. He explained that although his individual bets were not very large, the losses quickly accumulated. In total, he spent nearly ₱100,000 but only won three times, earning a total of just ₱20,000.

The Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) has issued a public warning about scatter games, noting that many of them are unregistered and potentially addictive. PCSO General Manager Mel Robles emphasized that the real danger lies not only in the game itself but also in the harmful effects it can have on players, especially in the absence of proper regulation.

To help protect the public, the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) has launched a website where users can check if an online gaming platform is licensed and legitimate.

Meanwhile, scatter is a type of online gambling game, similar to a digital slot machine. Players place small bets and spin virtual reels, hoping to land “scatter” symbols that trigger bonus rounds or cash prizes. These games are often promoted through e-wallet apps or social media, making them easy to access and very tempting. However, many scatter games are unregulated, which increases the risk of addiction and financial loss. Because of this, experts and authorities strongly advise users to verify the legitimacy of the platforms they engage with and to gamble responsibly.
